Welcome
As of the end of 2006, the Central African Republic (CAR) has been able to re-engage with the international financial community and made considerable macro-economic progress.
In view of these positive developments, the Central African government, with the technical support of the European Commission, the UNDP and the World Bank, has been holding a series of meetings and consultations to outline its reconstruction programme for the next three years. The first meeting in this series of consultations took place on 26 June 2007 in Brussels.
The dialogue with current and new development partners now continues with the first Round Table meeting for the Central African Republic. It aims to allow donors to examine CAR’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP), the programmes proposed to implement that strategy, and the financing plan of the PRSP.
This Round Table has four main objectives:
- Continue the dialogue with the donor community regarding development policies in CAR, initiated in Brussels in June 2007. More specifically, during this meeting on 26 October, the Government will present to its partners the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) for CAR, which will be the key reference document for all of the country’s development strategies and policies.
- Mobilise the resources needed to overcome the funding gap for the PRSP priority action plan.
- Agree on the mechanisms for monitoring and managing aid, following the spirit of the Paris Declaration and recent policies of donors for development aid.
- Enlarge the community of donors active in CAR and strengthen collaboration and aid harmonisation between them.
Please consult the background section and other available documents for more information on the meeting and CAR.
